Data Responsibility & Limitation of Liability

We built the app. We don't need your data.

1. Nature of the Application

RupeeTrail ("the Application") is a personal finance management tool designed to operate entirely on your local device. The Application does not connect to any external server or cloud storage infrastructure for the purposes of creating, storing, processing, or transmitting your personal financial data.

2. Data Custody and Ownership

All financial data you create, capture, import, or generate through the Application — including but not limited to transaction records, budget configurations, account details, category structures, recurring transaction templates, savings goals, goal contributions, and user preferences — is stored exclusively in an encrypted database on your device. You retain full ownership and sole custody of this data at all times. The developer of RupeeTrail ("the Developer") holds no copy of this data, in any form, at any time.

3. Developer's Technical Inability to Access Your Data

The Developer has no technical capability, by design, to access, view, retrieve, transfer, copy, modify, or delete any data stored by the Application on your device. The Developer does not operate any server, database, or cloud infrastructure that receives, processes, or retains your financial information. This is a fundamental architectural principle of the Application, not a policy subject to exception or override. No request — whether from the user, a court order, or any third party — can cause the Developer to produce data that the Developer does not possess.

4. User's Sole Responsibility for Data Management

You are solely and entirely responsible for:

  • (a) Creating regular backups of your Application data using the built-in backup feature or any other method available to you;
  • (b) Storing backup files in a location of your choice, including but not limited to external storage media, cloud storage services you independently control, or physical backup devices;
  • (c) Verifying that backup files are valid and restorable before relying on them;
  • (d) Restoring your data from a backup in the event of data loss;
  • (e) Maintaining the security and integrity of any backup files you create;
  • (f) Maintaining the device on which the Application is installed in good working order; and
  • (g) Understanding the consequences of actions such as factory resetting your device, uninstalling the Application, or modifying the Application's storage permissions.

5. No Data Recovery by the Developer

In the event of data loss — caused by device failure, accidental deletion, uninstallation of the Application, factory reset, software corruption, operating system updates, hardware damage, device theft, or any other cause — the Developer is unable to assist with data recovery in any form whatsoever. The Developer does not maintain copies, archives, snapshots, or any other form of backup of your data. There is no support process, escalation path, or technical mechanism through which lost data can be reconstructed or retrieved.

6. Notification Access

The Application requests access to device notifications in order to read transaction alerts from banking and financial applications installed on your device. This data is processed in real time, locally on your device, solely for the purpose of identifying financial transactions. It is not transmitted to any external system. You grant this permission voluntarily during device setup and may revoke it at any time through your device operating system settings. Revocation of this permission does not delete data already captured; it prevents future automatic capture only.

7. Local Encryption

Your data is stored in an encrypted database on your device using industry-standard encryption. The encryption key is derived from your device's secure hardware environment and is unique to your device and installation. The Developer does not have access to this key and cannot decrypt, access, or read your data under any circumstances.

8. No Warranty

The Application is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. The Developer makes no warranty that the Application will operate without interruption, be free from errors or defects, or that defects will be corrected. The Developer makes no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any financial calculations, projections, or categorisations produced by the Application. The Application is a personal management tool and does not constitute financial advice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Application, including but not limited to: loss of financial data; loss of financial records; financial loss arising from inaccurate, incomplete, or missing records; loss of business; or any other pecuniary or non-pecuniary loss, even if the Developer has been advised of the possibility of such damage.

10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This disclaimer is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising in connection with this disclaimer or the Application shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts located in India.

11. Acceptance

By installing the Application and accepting this disclaimer during the first-launch onboarding process, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to all terms stated herein. Your continued use of the Application following acceptance constitutes ongoing agreement with these terms. If you do not agree with any part of these disclaimer, you must immediately cease using and uninstall the Application.
